The first week of June, hundreds of polished competitors from across the United States gathered on Anderson University‘s beautiful campus in Anderson, South Carolina for one last chance to share the messages they spent the 2018-2019 season preparing.
The tournament began with the Opening Ceremony on Sunday evening. During the Opening Ceremony, the 2019-2020 Debate Resolutions and Speech Events were announced! Read below for more information and let the research begin.
2020 Debate Resolutions Announced
Be sure to read the associated white papers for each style of debate that provide an overview of the philosophical issues underlying each topic. This information will provide you with the intended framework of the resolution. If you’d like to read more about the selection process and specific word changes, please click here. Remember that suggestions for future resolutions are accepted year-round at DebateCommittee@NCFCA.org. 2020 Speech Events Announced
For the 2020 season, NCFCA will offer ten speech events which are divided into three main categories: Platform, Interpretation, and Limited Preparation Speeches. Each of these categories offers distinct opportunities for students to develop their communication skills. Event rules will be available in the Resource Library on August 1 to provide you with plenty of time to prepare for the competition season. Once you’ve had a chance to review those, send any questions you might have to the Speech Committee at SpeechCommittee@NCFCA.org. Biblical Thematic is an interpretation speech in which the speaker analyzes three or more literature selections, including at least one Scripture selection, and develops a unique, original performance using a visual aid.
Duo is an interpretation speech in which two speakers explore a published literature selection and develop a unique, original performance.
Humorous is an interpretation speech in which the speaker explores a published literature selection and develops a unique, original, and humorous performance.
Open is an interpretation speech in which the speaker explores a published or self-authored literature selection and develops a unique, original performance.
Apologetics is a limited preparation speech in which the speaker draws a topic and is given four minutes to prepare a six-minute speech that presents a well-reasoned defense of basic tenets of the Christian faith.
Extemporaneous is a limited preparation speech in which the speaker is assigned a current event topic and given twenty minutes to analyze news and other sources while preparing a seven-minute, evidence-based speech.
Impromptu is a limited preparation speech in which the speaker draws a topic and is given two minutes to prepare a unique and meaningful five-minute speech.
Digital Presentation is an original platform speech that informs or persuades, accompanied by digital visual aids.
Informative is an original platform speech that explains a significant topic.
Persuasive is an original platform speech that influences the audience to consider a particular point of view or course of action.
