Believing that formal speech and debate offers a means for homeschool students to learn and exercise analytical and oratorical skills, NCFCA has developed extensive speech and debate programs for NCFCA Affiliate Families.
NCFCA is committed to academic integrity and ethical behavior in all areas of competitive forensics, and seeks to provide programs that will instill these core values as students learn to communicate. Competitors serve as witnesses of Christ and should seek to reflect this at all times. All listeners should be attracted to the speaker’s argumentation/content, to their demeanor and to their faith.
System of Qualification to the National Championship
NCFCA’s unique Qualification System involves three separate ways to earn an invitation to the National Championship. This Qualification System combines a mid-level of competition, recognition of achievement over the span of the season, and a “straight shot” to Nationals that hinges on success at a National Open Tournament.
Regional Invitational Qualifications
Most of the National qualifying slots (invitations) are earned through a successful performance at that Regional Invitational Tournament. This tournament is designed to be the equivalent of a Regional Championship and offers the mid-level of achievement in the NCFCA.
National Open Qualifications
Each season, NCFCA holds several large tournaments that are open to any Affiliate in the country. The winners of these tournaments garner an invitation straight to the National Championship, bypassing the Regional Invitational qualification.
Recognizing that a single performance does not always exemplify the abilities of an individual and realizing that sometimes unique situations come up that preclude a competitor from being able to attend his Regional Invitational, the NCFCA has developed an At-Large system that encompasses a student’s achievement over the course of the entire season. The At-Large system is specifically designed to reward those outstanding students that did not otherwise earn an invitation to the National Championship.
