Qualifying Tournament Participation General Rules

PDF file found here.

NOTICE: THESE RULES APPLY SPECIFICALLY TO NCFCA QUALIFYING TOURNAMENTS, REGIONAL INVITATIONALS, NATIONAL OPENS, AND THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

  MISSION

The National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) believes that competitive forensics provides a means for home schooled students to learn and exercise analytical and oratorical skills in addressing life issues from a biblical worldview in a manner that glorifies God. NCFCA shall facilitate Qualifying Tournaments and host a National Championship to provide this opportunity to home schooled students.

ELIGIBILITY

AFFILIATE STATUS

A qualified competitor will be an NCFCA affiliate.

AGE

Qualified competitors shall be ages 12 to 18 on January 1, 2009. Students who will be older than 18 on January 1, 2009 may be deemed eligible if proof of high school status is verified by NCFCA.

SCHOOL STATUS

Home-Educated - Qualified competitors must be home school students whose education is managed by their parents or legal guardians. A qualified competitor's education may include the use of tutors, video courses, Internet courses, college correspondence courses, classes in cooperation with other home school students, and other creative methods that supplement home education.

High School - Competitors who have graduated from 12th grade or who are enrolled in a full-time college-level degree program shall not be eligible. No more than 50% of a competitor’s education shall consist of college courses.

Privately Funded Education - Students who are primarily enrolled in the public school system are not eligible to compete in NCFCA Qualifying Tournaments or the National Championship. NCFCA defines the public school system to include public schools, tax-funded charter schools, tax-funded independent study programs, or any other form of education that is subject to legal restrictions solely because it is funded by government money or property. A student is “primarily enrolled” for NCFCA purposes if that student's participation entitles the public school system to more than 50% of the funding it would receive for a full-time student in the same program.
