2011-2012 NCFCA Platform Events include Biographical Narrative, Illustrated Oratory, and Persuasive.
The purpose of the Platform category is to train the student to research, assemble and communicate a prepared speech that would appeal to a variety of audiences.
The topic of each speech is chosen by the student.

Biographical Narrative
A Biographical Narrative is an original platform speech that focuses on the relevance and/or contributions of a single person’s life. The following goals could be served by the speech: informing, inspiring, persuading, entertaining, or teaching among others. The primary goal of the event is to encourage student recognition of those individuals that have impacted us in profound ways.

Illustrated Oratory
The Illustrated Oratory speech is an original platform speech which informs or explains a particular topic with the use of visual aids. The Illustrated Oratory speech should be a compelling speech that is enhanced by but not solely dependent upon the visual aids. The speech could pose a problem, offer a solution, alert to an issue of concern, strengthen devotion to a cause, or more generally to inform. The following goals could be served by the speech: informing, inspiring, persuading, entertaining, or teaching, among others.

Persuasive
A Persuasive speech is an original platform speech that attempts to persuade the audience to adopt a particular point of view or course of action. The Persuasive speech could pose a problem, offer a solution, alert to an issue of concern, or strengthen devotion to a cause. The most important goal of the speech would be to attempt to persuade; while informing, inspiring, entertaining, or teaching could also be served by the speech.
