"Many years ago, a call went forward from homeschooling folks who lived in Purcellville, Virginia, to please come judge at a first national debate tournament. This fledgling organization, The National Christian Forensics and Communication Association, was hosting their first ever national tournament facilitated by Home School Legal Defense Association. I got that call, and immediately dismissed the idea of ever possibly being involved in “that sort of thing.” Little did I know how “that sort of thing” would become a key factor and positively impact my family’s life for the next 13 years…

…The quality of the competition is much higher now than in the early years. This reflects the growth and maturing of the league. Having recently attended another forensic league event in order to cheer on my former student who is now in public school, I saw the distinct skills promoted by NCFCA which were absent from this league. I am so thankful that our students have to be able to communicate to a vast audience!

Two of my sons now have their master’s degrees and one just graduated from college early. They have told me that NCFCA speech and debate was the most important and valuable part of their high school experience. I have seen the work study skills, the communication skills, and the leadership and character which have developed as a result of their time involved with NCFCA. They have made friendships in the league which continue to this day. Our time spent with the league has been a lifelong investment which has returned high yields. I am excited about the future of the league, and anticipate further growth for our family as our daughter continues in competition."
